Introduction

I am interested in researching if it would be possible for me to become Buddhist. I am interested in this because all my life I have never been very interested about my religion. I grew up being catholic, but I have lost some interest. I still believe in god and everything else that follows the catholic religion but I have been very distant from the religion itself.  This changed when  I traveled to Thailand over the summer. The main religion there is buddhism.

I learned that The founder of buddhism was Buddha Shakyamuni. He lived and taught in India two and a half thousand years ago. Since then, millions of people followed in his path and studied buddhism. Buddhism has not died down since two and a half thousand years ago. His path was the buddha way of life, which was considered peace, loving kindness, and wisdom. What he taught was generally how to overcome your anger state of mind, such as jealousy, negative thoughts, and ignorance. Once you overcome this you will be peaceful and happy. Meditation is the buddha way of life. It is a method for working on your mind.

“The teachings of Buddha reveal a step by step path to lasting happiness. By following this path anyone can gradually transform his or her mind from its present confused and self-centered state into the blissful mind of a Buddha.” Anyone can become buddhist; it's the steps that lead you to it.

I would like to discover if Buddhism is the right religion for me. There is a lot of dedication that has to be done in order to switch your religion completely but I would like to stick with it. I don’t want to become Buddhist and then have nothing come from it.
